Ag-Tech Startups: Qualities We’re Seeking

We’re always scanning the ever-changing ag-tech landscape for promising technologies and companies that merit further investment. These are six traits we’re especially seeking:

  • Disruptive Technologies. We seek to invest in companies with innovative technologies that have the potential to disrupt the agriculture industry, with a keen focus on the degree of competitive advantage a company holds — via unique intellectual property or otherwise — to own the “knowledge space” and advance market position.
  • Economic Viability. We assess the economics of a potential investment offering, including endorsements from key customers in our sectors, to validate product/market fit and ensure an ability to generate sustainable, profitable returns.
  • Strong Teams. We invest in teams with a deep understanding of agriculture, a passion for innovation, and a commitment to success, and determine the extent to which we can leverage our platform to play an active role in each portfolio company’s growth.
  • Market Access Network. We look for startups that have reasonable market and grower access. We bolster with our connectivity and networks to help startups unlock their success by monetizing technology, increasing adoption rate, and providing ROI to investors.
  • Scalable Solutions. We prioritize companies with scalable solutions with clear value-propositions that can address the needs of a sizeable and expanding addressable market with positioning for long-term growth.

We conduct diligence and validation. Our team conducts in-depth due diligence on shortlisted opportunities, assessing the technology, market potential, management, and scalability.

We manage investment and scaling. Verdelis Investments provides capital, strategic guidance, and operational support to help startups scale their solutions, gain market access, and maximize profitability.  We are committed to acquiring and building platforms to become sector leaders through buy-and-build strategies and serial rollups

We provide expert portfolio management. The firm actively monitors investments, which typically includes a Verdelis Investments seat on the portfolio company’s board of directors along with hands-on support and active management to accelerate growth.
